Unfortunately, many dogs are not fortunate enough to live with a happy and loving household. In fact, dogs of all shapes, sizes, and ages are abandoned on the streets every day and forced to fend for themselves. It’s a horrible world we live in, yet for every evil individual, there are hundreds of fantastic people who accomplish absolutely remarkable things.
Many canines are given a second chance at life thanks to shelters like Lewis and Clark Humane Society. This open-admission humane society in Helena, Montana, takes in about 1500 animals each year. They boast a 98% adoption rate and retain all pets for as long as it takes to find them a forever home.
Some dogs are adopted fast, but for others, this sanctuary is almost a lifelong home. It’s preferable to living on the streets alone, but nothing beats having loving pawrents and a home.Bubba Jr. is one of the shelter canines that has been there for a long time. Unfortunately, it was his residence for the next 93 days.
He’s a beautiful boy, but he’s also a Pitbull, which made it difficult for him to be adopted.
“People keep throwing Pitbulls around,” the shelter noted in one of their posters. Pitbull? Pittie? Hippo House? Monster Slobber? LCHS is unconcerned. They recognize me for who I am. “What a huge meathead of a dog!”
This breed is continuously surrounded by bad perceptions that do little to aid with adoption. It doesn’t help that many rentals aren’t exactly pet-friendly, especially when it comes to Pitbulls, therefore many landlords say ‘no’ to having a dog in their house/apartment.
This reduces adoption opportunities, which is why dogs like Bubba Jr. spend so much time at a shelter. Many of these dogs are the loveliest individuals imaginable, patiently waiting for the day when happiness knocks on their door… or, for that matter, kennel.
Bubba liked everyone at the shelter, but there was one worker in particular who Bubba Jr. adored. And it appeared that this volunteer felt the same way about Bubba. After 93 days in the shelter, a volunteer decided to end Bubba’s search for a forever home by adopting him himself. What a lovely day it was for the entire shelter.
Everyone was so moved by this act that they wanted to share it on their Facebook page, but this time they allowed Bubba say a few things…
Everyone’s heart was warmed by Bubba’s diary post. People were overjoyed for little Bubba, who now has a warm bed, snuggles, and toys, but most importantly, a new dad who will love him unconditionally.
This volunteer’s altruistic deed demonstrated to everyone why it is critical to give shelter dogs a second opportunity.
If you’re thinking about getting a dog, please visit your local shelter first, and perhaps you can also become someone’s Favorite Volunteer and make someone’s day.
There are so many dogs waiting for someone to love them forever, but unfortunately, many of them do not have the opportunity to stay at the shelter until they find a home.
