Mitchell Miner, 15, and his cow Audri recently competed in the Iowa State Fair dairy kettle show.Despite their best efforts, they finished fifth out of seven. The two were exhausted and taking a nap when the boy’s father came in and took a photo of them snuggling side by side. The photo was accompanied by the caption, “Our son Mitchell and his heifer after showing yesterday.”It quickly went viral, with over 15,000 likes by the next day.
“I think it’s just that after spending that much time with them, they get really comfortable,” the boy’s mother, Laura Miner, told the Des Moines Register. She and her husband both grew up on farms, but now that they live elsewhere, they want their children to have a connection to their roots.
As a result, the family borrows animals for the summer so that her children can experience farm life.”We learned a lot from the farm,” Mitchell’s father, Jeremy Miner, said.”Those values have been instilled in us, and we are doing everything we can to preserve them.”
As for Audri the napping cow, she will be heading back to the dairy farm once the showings finish in September.Recently a picture of a 15-year-old boy taking a sweet nap with his cow went viral
