The horse goes from being abandoned barely breathing to winning a prize

When volunteers from the British Horse Society came across this heartbreaking scene, they couldn’t stop crying.Next to a building site in East Durham, England, a horse was sitting in the mud, just like she would have been gone.
That’s what the rescue team thought at first!Heidi, the poor horse, was in terrible shape. She couldn’t even breathe, let alone stand on her own.The British Horse Society volunteers, on the other hand, knew they had to give her a chance. So they took the starving pony to a shelter and attempted to help her.

“The volunteer was horrified to discover what she thought was a dead horse among the mud and rubbish,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.”However, the horse was seen to be breathing moments later, and the shocked volunteer quickly called for help.”

When Heidi was rescued, everyone knew it would be a nearly impossible task to get her back on her feet. But the lovely horse proved she’s a survivor, and despite going through unimaginable ordeals, she made an incredible recovery.Even it took over five weeks until she was able to stand on her feet alone, no one would recognize her now, nearly a year apart.”The early days were touch and go, as we dealt with her serious weakness and such a low blood protein level that a plasma transfusion was required,” Wendy Suddes from the charity Here4Horses explained for BORED PANDA.”It took a long time to get Heidi well enough to run free in our pastures.”

Heidi is a completely different animal now, after months of medical treatment and a long road to recovery. She lost weight and her hair grew back. She has a gorgeous mane and a radiant smile. But most important, she’s now fine and healthy and more…now she’s a rosette-winning horse.
