Service Dog Found Shaking & Screaming In Pain After Owner Turns Back For Moments

Gizmo, a 2-year-old Shih Tzu, is a sweet, friendly, and playful member of Mandy Garner’s family, writes ilovemydogsomuch.

Mandy relies on Gizmo as her service animal, so he is an integral part of her life and daily activities.Mandy allowed Gizmo to relieve himself outside her Baytown, Texas home, as she always does.Except for what she claims happened next, nothing unusual happened that day.

Mandy claims she returned home, put a few items away, and then returned outside to bring Gizmo in.The poor woman was horrified by what she saw on the porch, as Gizmo was shaking and had something terribly wrong with his face. She immediately picked up the little dog and drove him to a nearby animal hospital for help.Mandy was not allowed inside due to COVID restrictions, but the vet performed a number of tests to determine what happened to Gizmo.

WARNING: Graphic Content!

Gizmo was hospitalized for a week after suffering chemical burns to his face. She claims it appears as if someone set fire to the dog, which is technically how chemical burns feel.
“A pest control officer said that it was a large amount that was intentionally put on him,” she continued, “not to mention he had internal bruising in his chest as well as mouth messed up where they possibly could have kicked him afterward.” Gizmo is blind and will need both of his eyes removed.Mandy believes she is being given the runaround by authorities.

“I called Baytown Police Department to file charges for animal cruelty, which is a felony offense, and they stated that they can’t do anything because I don’t live in the City Limits of Baytown and that I should call Harris County Sheriffs Office,” Mandy wrote on Facebook.”When I called them, they said they only investigate animal cruelty if a dog bites someone, which wasn’t the case, and they told me to contact the Houston SPCA, which I did, and nobody did anything.”

A representative from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told PEOPLE Pets that the case is being investigated.
We wish Gizmo the best of luck in his recovery and hope that the person or persons responsible for this heinous crime are apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
