Summer’s “dog days” are finally here, which means we must take extra precautions to keep our dogs safe and protected when we take them outside.
As temperatures rose in the mountainous hills of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a struggling, dehydrated canine needed assistance — and luckily, one was available.Last week, Lexie Daniel and a group of hikers came across a man whose dog appeared to be severely overheated and dehydrated.Even after giving the dog all of their water supplies, they were worried that it wouldn’t be enough to keep him going after seeing how bad he was in.
The owner had even brought a large jug, but it appeared that no amount of water was helping the situation. They needed a miracle, which luckily came in the form of K. Salapek.
The owner was far too exhausted to carry the massive dog off the perilous mountain trail by himself, so he immediately called the local park ranger and reported his location to ranger Kris Salapek.
Salapek jumped into action as soon as he was made aware of the emergency situation and soon found them on the trail.Salapek knew there was a cold stream further down the mountain that might be able to cool the pup down.So Salapek hoisted the 100-pound German Shepherd onto his shoulders and began the difficult descent.
Daniels told the Good News Network, “It was a LONG distance — a couple miles down an incredibly rocky path.”When they finally arrived at a stream, Salapek knelt beside him and poured water on the exhausted pup.Salapek was able to cool the pup down enough for the remainder of the journey.
Salapek hoisted the tired pooch back up over his shoulders and continued the trek down to the street after the pup had cooled down. The trail was rocky and exhausting, and the 100-pound dog pressing down on him must have felt like lead for over an hour, but Salapek soldiered on — all he could think about was saving the dog.
Salapek finally arrived at the mountain’s base after a long and arduous descent.Salapek’s heroic efforts ensured that the pup received the care it required and survived the terrifying ordeal.Daniel, a pediatric nurse, shared the good deed she had just witnessed on Facebook, and it quickly went viral, with over 50,000 likes and 35,000 shares at the time of writing.
Fortunately, Salapek arrived on time to assist the owner and his dog.Salapek’s actions were described as brave and badass by some commenters.Furthermore, most people, including Daniel, believed that his heroic rescue deserved special recognition.
Few people would have had the courage and determination that Salapek displayed that day on the mountain, and he is nothing short of a hero.He has received widespread acclaim and deserves all of the love and attention he has received.
