Patch, my childhood cat, was my best friend. He was best friends with Bonita, our dog. They spent many years outside in the backyard chilling together. They’d take sun naps together, chase birds together, wait for scraps beside the barbecue grill in the summer, and share the same water dish – Patch had his own but preferred to share Bonita’s.Patch was the runt of the litter, but he was also a bit of a ruffian, frequently getting into scrapes with the other neighborhood cats he enjoyed bullying. That’s when you could really see how close they were.
Bonita would be beside herself with worry, running around the yard howling and desperately trying to get out, as if “I hear my homeboy in a fight!”Allow me to assist!”Patch would then return to the yard victorious, clutching a tuft of the other cat’s fur in his mouth.Bonita would run up to him, whining and wagging her tail, kissing him.Patch would swat her away, fresh off the high of another successful fight, only to return a few minutes later with an affectionate headbutt. When Patch died in 2010, Bonita was devastated for months.
My Uncle Max always reminded me as a child that animals are very sensitive creatures who feel the same things we do.People may not always notice it, but they feel things deeply and form strong bonds with one another – not just with humans.I will always argue with anyone who claims otherwise because pets, like us, feel love and sadness. So, animal lovers, gather your tissues, because this story will undoubtedly tug at your heartstrings as it deals with the enduring love between dogs.
A touching photo was shared of three Belgian Malinois dogs exchanging kisses as they said their final goodbyes. It definitely broke animal lovers’ hearts all over social media. The photo was shared by Reddit user Rawtashk, who took a photo of their eldest dog, 11-year-old Sef, saying goodbye to his family.Sef was put to sleep later that day.”Our old boy is being put down today,” Rawtashk wrote. Our other two seem to know, and they’ve been saying goodbye all morning.”
The family had previously arranged for their vet to come to their house and put Sef to sleep so that he could be surrounded by his family as he took the final step in his life’s journey.”You know you have a good boy when your vet doesn’t normally do at-home euthanasia, but she volunteers to come out and do it for Sef,” he wrote in his post.”And that’s what happened this morning,” he revealed. Rhonin and Jaina must have known because they kept coming over and kissing Sef this morning while we waited for the vet.Sef was able to pass away peacefully at home, while my wife and I stroked his fur and told him how much we loved him and would miss him.”I adore you, Sef.”You were the most wonderful boy I could have asked for.I would have carried you for eternity if I could, but it wasn’t fair to you,” Rawtashk wrote.
“Thanks for the kind words, everyone,” the family wrote in response to the original post.We said our goodbyes, and he’s being cremated so that his ashes can be placed on the mantle next to our first dog.He was the most wonderful boy I could have asked for.I adore you, buddy.”I hope you had a fantastic time.”
Sef’s owner later revealed to LADbible that the other two dogs have been sad since Sef passed away.”We still have two dogs,” he explained. “Rhonin, a five-year-old male, and Jaina, a two-year-old female.”Rhonin has a very soft personality, and I can tell he still suspects something is wrong, though this could be due to his perception of my general demeanor.Jaina is more outgoing and energetic, so she doesn’t seem to mind….but last night she did come over to the couch and sniff around at the blanket that has been Sef’s’spot’ for the last five months or so.”
The owner also stated that Jaina is aware she is not permitted on the couch, but jumped up only to “curl up where Sef would normally be.”Sef’s owners are hoping that the people who are moved by Sef’s goodbye will consider supporting a dog rescue and donate to the American Belgian Malinois Rescue in his memory.
