Stray Rescue of St. Louis discovered a dog with a broken foot. Of course, they intended to rescue, but they had no idea how much they would save. ilovemydogsomuch says
Soon after rescuing the dog, they discovered she had milk. This is when they realized the dog was a new mother with puppies nearby. Rescuers realized they needed to find them as soon as possible.
They immediately went to the mother dog’s den in the underbrush to see if her pups were there. Rescuers brushed aside branches and crept through shrubs until they came across a small den.
There were not just a few puppies inside the den, a hole in the ground that served as a “safe haven,” but THIRTEEN! Their mother did an excellent job of keeping them safe and comfortable by concealing them.
Rescuers gently placed the puppies, one by one, into a container before bringing them and their mother back to their rescue. They were able to provide the mom and pups with the medical attention they required.
The mother’s injured leg will be repaired, and all of the puppies will be spayed and neutered before being adopted when they reach the appropriate age.
Meanwhile, St. Louis Stray Rescue is looking for puppy foster homes. They offer classes, and more information is available on their website, which you can access by clicking here.
