Bosco, a Beagle-mix, went missing from his home in Westerley, Rhode Island, when he was 9 years old.The daring dog had apparently slipped out of his collar to explore the neighborhood, but he had eventually failed to find his way back home.
Dad Bill Ballato, who has a back disability, spent months searching for Bosco through missing posters and personal inquiries, but the sweet dog was nowhere to be found. When Bill was forced to relocate to Lafayette, Colorado, he worried that he would never see his dog again.
Bosco had been missing for over two years when some Rhode Island residents recognized him from missing posters.Bosco was living on the streets, but he was terrified of humans.
Locals notified Sheilah Graham, a Department of Homeland Security employee who frequently volunteers as a “pet detective” to find missing pets.Sheilah contacted Bill to learn more about Bosco. She soon succeeded in capturing Bosco with a trap filled with a variety of his favorite foods!
Bill’s disability made it impossible for him to come and get Bosco, Sheilah knew.Because a senior dog like Bosco couldn’t fly, she gladly agreed to drive 2000 miles in 36 hours to bring Bosco to Bill and reunite them!During the self-funded trip, the considerate woman drove through two snowstorms while caring for Bosco.
But, after 764 days, when the senior dog finally saw Bill, he froze in confusion. The poor father was afraid that his old friend would no longer recognize him.But when Bill mustered the courage to call out “Dude,” Bosco realized he was back in the arms of his dear father!
Bosco happily reunited with his old toys and his doggie sibling as well!We thank the amazing Sheilah who selflessly made this reunion happen! This is one of the sweetest reunions we’ve ever witnessed!
