Meet Petey, the puppy who was abandoned with his brother in a park because he was different. While walking her son home from school, a woman from Sacramento, California, noticed the dogs and rushed them to the vet. They were malnourished, sluggish, and as cold as ice. Petey’s brother died shortly after arriving at the clinic, but Petey decided to fight for his life.
The vets quickly realized there was something wrong when the puppy couldn’t move properly. Petey had cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition in which the cerebellum is not fully developed.
“This can occur due to genetic causes or infections in the mother during development,” Sacramento SPCA veterinarian Dr. Laurie Siperstein-Cook told The Dodo. “There are signs such as head bobbing, clumsiness, and falling.”
Petey, on the other hand, is a rambunctious, curious, and silly dog, according to Westphal-Thomson, the doggie’s foster mom. “He’s also very self-assured and enjoys meeting new people…” He learned to eat on his own and enjoys running around and cuddling. The abandoned puppy was quickly adopted by a loving couple who adore him and will never abandon him because he is unique.
