One of the most upsetting things is seeing dogs returned to the shelter after being adopted; their sad and dejected expressions can bring tears to one’s eyes. This has happened many times before, and it tragically happened to the pup in today’s story as well.
Lola was brought back to the shelter twice in the span of seven months.Lola was determined to make the finest impression on the next family she returns home to. And this is exactly what she did.
Cristina Antonucci was browsing a pet rescue website when she noticed Lola’s gorgeous black-and-white face.Christina decided to meet this adorable puppy in person after being reminded of her childhood dog, an English Bull Terrier mix.
Lola was first adopted as a young puppy by a teenager who named her Gucci Rose and later returned her to the shelter. Her second adoption ended similarly, as the owner, who had no prior dog parent experience, was unsure how to care for her requirements.
As soon as she heard about her unfortunate past, Christina’s mind was made up. She was determined to adopt this sweet pup and provide her with the home she deserved all along.
When Lola arrived at her new home, she made it a point to show Christina how much she appreciated everything she had done for her.
“The first night I took her home, she lay on top of me for hours, cuddling me. I was amazed at how quickly she warmed up to me, considering I had just spent the journey home with her at that point. Christina commented, “It was as if she was just so grateful, and I knew I couldn’t let her down.”
Unfortunately, all of her previous experiences had an impact on Lola, and she ended herself doing things she wasn’t meant to.Fortunately, her new parents understood her position and were very patient with her from the beginning.
“We had issues with her digging in the backyard and attempting to get through the fence to play with the neighbor’s dog.” It absolutely taxed our patience, but we knew that if we didn’t have it, no one else would,” she explained.
Even throughout these difficult times, Christina remained grateful to Lola for teaching her crucial life lessons.
“Lola has definitely taught me patience and perseverance.” No matter how difficult the situation is, you cannot simply give up. “No one is perfect,” she explained.
Fortunately, her digging phase did not last long, since Lola changed careers and became a backyard possum patroller instead.Another factor contributing to this adjustment was her new baby brother, Lenny.
Lola was the happiest big sister ever knowing that she now has the cutest little companion to play with.
“They’ve become best buddies and spend their days playing. They’ve only been together for a month and a half, but they love each other. “They even sleep on the same bed,” she explained.
Christina was overjoyed to know that she had succeeded in providing Lola with a home where she could live happily and healthy. And the slight hiccups at the beginning added to the sweetness.
“The highlight of my day is simply getting home and spending time with her. “She truly holds a special place in my heart,” Christina ended.
