Not alone can parents have a profound attachment to their children in the human world; wild animals can feel the same way.Scientists have shown that animals, especially near relatives such as chimps, bonobos, and gorillas, express emotions ranging from joy to despair. But what about lions?
A genuinely wonderful scene between a lion dad and his son was filmed by cameras inside the lion’s cage at the Denver Zoo in September.Tatu, the lion cub born on July 25, 2019, has enchanted both visitors and workers at the Denver Zoo.
The curious, lively, and adorable cub has become a social media sensation; as soon as staff posted a video of the future lion king, thousands of hearts melted.Tatu is the third cub born to Neliah. He weighs 12 pounds already, and his birth is more momentous than you might believe.
According to DenverZoo.org, “half of Africa’s lions have vanished in the last 25 years, and the species faces growing threats from poaching, prey loss, and habitat destruction.” The birth of the cub is a tremendous accomplishment for the Lion Species Survival Plan (SSP), which promotes healthy, genetically diversified lion populations in Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) institutions.”
Tatu’s father, Tobias, appears to adore his son as well. Tobias has never fathered a child, thus his genetics are vital to the AZA lion population. Tobias was especially excited to meet his newborn because this was his first child. You can see their first meeting in the video below. It has been viewed over 500,000 times, and it’s easy to see why….
