Laura knew she had to act when she saw a black and white dog tethered to a tree behind a house with no food or water. The dog, whom she eventually named Takia, was a large and affectionate beast who wiggled her tail as the woman approached.
Despite not knowing whether anyone lived in the house, Laura visited Takia three days a week, bringing her food and water and attempting to make her living circumstances more comfortable.
Takia eventually recognized Laura’s automobile and became extremely excited whenever she saw her. Laura knew she needed to do more for Takia. She even pondered taking her in order to give her a better life. She eventually decided against it, fearing the consequences.
Laura instead contacted Animal Control to report Takia’s plight. She was disappointed to find that the condition was regarded fine as long as there was a dog house and enough food and water. Undaunted, Laura visited Takia three days a week for a year, determined to make a difference in her life.
Laura realized she had to try to get Takia out of her current circumstances when summer arrived. She solicited the assistance of her mother, who was as worried about the dog’s well-being. They contacted Animal Control once more as a group. The next day, they got a call saying that Takia’s owner had surrendered her and that they were seeking for someone to take her in.
Laura, overjoyed, volunteered to adopt the puppy she had already fallen in love with. Takia was a completely different dog when she arrived home. She was used to being chained up all day, but now she could run around and investigate her new surroundings.Laura marveled at the dog’s transformation, noting how appreciative Takia was for everything she had been given.
Takia finally had a cozy bed in her new home, and Laura couldn’t believe the dog had spent so much time sleeping outside in the mud, rain, and snow. She considered herself quite fortunate that they had met. Takia and her owner both had a happy ending as a result of one woman’s commitment to make a difference in the life of a neglected dog. They can now enjoy their time together with the knowledge that they have one other’s love and support.
