“Break the chains!” That’s what a concerned neighbor hollered at Donna with Stray Rescue of St. Louis after she landed to free a relinquished and starving dog.
The hound – with frightening gem blue eyes – was fastened to a home with a huge, overwhelming chain. His ribs were distending from his skin, proof that he had not eaten in a long time.
The hound – who they named Cobalt – was extremely eager to see them. He swayed his tail and hopped up on them and ate up the hotdogs they tossed on the ground for him. Donna pulled out jolt cutters and utilized everything that is in her to attempt to break the chain.
“Break the chains” the neighbor hollered and she pushed more earnestly. At long last the chain gave. “You got him free,” the eased neighbor said. Cobalt was so eager he tore open the sack of canine nourishment in the rear of Donna’s truck!

He wagged his tail and jumped up on them and devoured the sausages they threw on the ground for him. Donna pulled out bolt-cutters and used all her strength to try and break the chain.
“Break the chains” the neighbor yelled and she pushed harder. Finally the chain gave. “You got him free,” the relieved neighbor said. Cobalt was so hungry he ripped open the bag of dog food in the back of Donna’s truck! Donna reassures everyone that, “He will NEVER EVER be left behind again.”
