As a former dog owner, I must say that it was a really challenging job. I would get in a lot of trouble, making it impossible to give my German Shepherd the care he deserved.Regardless, I adored him and would go to any length to please him. Even when it was difficult to care for him, I always found a solution.
However, this is not always achievable and may be difficult for others to comprehend. Sometimes life may drag you where you don’t want to go, resulting in a slew of negative outcomes. In this story, we will talk about a sad dog who was surrendered by his family to a shelter and was almost euthanized before somebody helped him.
Jamie worked as an adoption counselor at the Atlanta Humane Society, a Georgia shelter, in 2016. One day, while strolling through the admissions section, she observed a couple who had come to the shelter with their dog.
While Smokey still had a family, they enjoyed getting him a variety of stuffed animals to play with.He was very fond of some species of elephant. He was rarely seen without it.
He slept with it every night and awoke in the morning still clutching it closely.Despite Smokey’s success, his owners were experiencing financial difficulties and were forced to reduce their home.
Money became exceedingly tight, making it impossible to keep Smokey well fed. His owners understood it would no longer function.Things took a turn for the worst when the owners realized they were about to lose their home, so they needed to find someone to care for Smokey.
They were compelled to surrender him to a shelter, hoping that he would find another family that could make him happy.Having to say goodbye broke Smokey nearly entirely. He got quite anxious after being turned over to the shelter. He would not interact with anyone and spent the majority of the day lying on his bed with his favorite stuffed animal.
The shelter workers attempted their hardest to find someone for him, but it did not work. His tale and images drew some people close, but he didn’t care enough to see them and kept his distance. This was terrible because he began to exhibit aggressive behavior, indicating that he was no longer adoptable and would soon be euthanized. They scheduled his euthanasia because they couldn’t keep him for long due to his hostile behavior toward potential adopters.
Nobody wanted this to happen, so they kept on pushing and searching for other rescue organizations that could take care of him and try something that would change him.
Fortunately for him, an organization called I Have a Dream in Ohio contacted them and promised to shelter him. They quickly found him a foster family where his fear and fury subsided, and he was able to fully transform his attitude.
He wasn’t depressed anymore, and he enjoyed playing again, which was a great indicator of healing from his trauma. Smokey still enjoyed wandering around with his pet elephant.Even though it was deemed preterm, the rescue organization from Ohio registered him for adoption and shared his tale in the hopes that it would boost his chances.
After viewing his photo on the internet, a caring family came and took Smokey to his new home, where he can learn what it’s like to appreciate life again. He has been through so much tragedy, and he needs someone who understands and cares about him.
