K9s are incredible dogs. They not only give a vital service to police agencies, but they also leave a lasting impression on their fellow officers, forging an unbreakable friendship. One video shows a police canine crying after being reunited with his former handler for the first time in years.
The touching video was released by the Xichuan Police Department on a Chinese social networking site. Wangwang, an 8-year-old German shepherd, worked as a sniffer dog for the department before retiring in June 2019, according to the Daily Star. While Wangwang earned a comfortable retirement and was properly cared for, it meant she was separated from her old partner and handler.
She missed him a lot — so when the officer decided to pay her a surprise visit after a long time apart, she was overjoyed and ran right to him.
Two old pals have a lovely reunion. Wangwang appears to be in tears, overcome with ecstasy, as the officer strokes and pets her.
Even though they hadn’t seen each other in a while and had gone their separate ways, this cop and dog were still in love. “Wangwang’s hair is turning white, but she is well fed, and she is getting fat,” read the original video.
“It is always hard to bid farewell to your buddy.”
While many K9s and other working dogs live with their owners after retirement, allowing them to enjoy their golden years with someone they know and trust, the Xichuan Police Department claims that their officers do not have the time to care for retired canines, so they are cared for by a family.
It’s unfortunate that these two had to part ways after building what appears to be a deep friendship on the job, but based on Wangwang’s face, we’re sure this wasn’t the officer’s final visit to his old friend.
What a lovely video. It demonstrates how powerful a dog’s love can be, as well as how strong the link between K9 police canines and their partners can be long after they separate ways.
