One thing that many dogs who are lost or living on the street have in common is that they will always politely seek for aid from humans.Almost all dogs will be wary of approaching humans too closely. Instead, they will simply wait and hope that someone will notice them. This story is about a dog that spent his days in front of a school, hoping for someone to come and save him.
Caleb Schaffer, an elementary school teacher in Houston, Texas, was on his way to work when he noticed a dog at the door and wondered what he was doing there. The dog seemed intrigued by the man and kept wagging his tail. Schaffer, on the other hand, didn’t have much time and needed to get back to teaching, so he left him there.
He told The Dodo in an interview: “He was sitting right outside the main door, and his tail started thumping when he saw me.”He had spent a lot of time thinking about how he could help the unfortunate puppy, so he walked outside after class to see whether he was still there.
The puppy was nowhere to be found, much to his amazement. Staff from a nearby animal shelter apparently tried to catch him and frightened him. However, the next morning, he was already back at the school door, and the same situation repeated again.
Schaffer observed how bad the dog’s skin was and how emaciated he was this time, so he determined to help him the next time he returned to school. To his surprise, the dog was nowhere to be found. Staff at a nearby animal shelter apparently tried to catch him and frightened him.
However, he was already there at the school door the next morning, and the same scene replayed itself. This time, Schaffer observed how bad the dog’s skin was and how emaciated he was, so he resolved to assist him the next time he returned to school.
The third day had arrived, and the identical situation had already begun. Schaffer decided not to let him go this time, so he carried the puppy to his car and went to his house, where he requested his wife to keep him company until he returned home from work. After finishing school, Schaffer thought he might help the dog by contacting rescue organizations in Texas, but they were all full.
As a result, he did the next best thing. He took the puppy to his neighborhood animal shelter, where he received medical attention and a bath.According to Schaffer, “I figured some basic vet care at the shelter was better than nothing.” He was in a lot of pain. The dog, now named Clive, had his story shared on Facebook and it caught the attention of Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption, who quickly found foster care for him.
Although it has been some time after this incident, Schaffer still enjoys telling his kids about it and reminds them of the importance of assisting stray animals.
He stated, “There are strays everywhere here.” It’s allowed me to talk about spaying and neutering, heartworm prevention, and the reality of shelters.
Clive has been in foster care for a long time, and it’s unknown whether he was adopted, but one thing is certain: he is a well-mannered and joyful dog that deserves all the love in the world.
